Postcards From 'Website' Of The Month - Suddenly Darling

Hi friends! Usually I do features with some of my favorite bloggers every month, but this month I really wanted to share with you one of my favorite sites, Suddenly Darling. Suddenly Darling is a website aimed at inspiring young girls to dress modestly, respect themselves, and share their love of fashion with their peers. I wish I had a website like this to go to when I was in highschool! Something that I really value in my life and personal style is modesty. I love to dress well and have fun mixing outfits, but I also like to cover up and not flaunt myself all over the place. I think that Suddenly Darling does such an amazing job at encouraging young girls that they can still be stylish while being modest. I would love to introduce you to the girl behind it all, Katelyn Rose. This girl is such an inspiration to me! She started this website in 2008 with the help of her Dad, and its been growing ever since! Have fun reading this interview with Katelyn Rose, and make sure you head over to check out Suddenly Darling! x

What is the story behind Suddenly Darling?
Modesty has always been on my heart and the word “Modesty” seems to have a negative connotation- think turtlenecks and oversized shirts. The term could do with a makeover so I wanted to show girls they can still dress fashionably but with a modest twist! In the year of 2008, my dad and I came up with the idea for a fashion website and Suddenly Darling was born!

When did your love for fashion start?
Growing up, I've always loved fashion. I would play dress up all the time and wear tons of jewelry! As I got older I got into fashion blogs for inspiration and that really got me passionate about showing girls how they can put really cute outfits together.

In a generation where beauty is very centered around what the media shares through magazines, ect, what is one message that you try to tell young girls who come to visit your website?
The main message I hope girls get from Suddenly Darling is to have self respect and don’t be afraid to let that show through the way you dress. If you don't respect yourself, others won't respect you. So to be wearing an amazing outfit that get’s people talking about how creative you are and also happens to show that you care about how you present yourself, then that’s only going to boost your confidence. It’s very rewarding.

What is your number one fashion advice?
An outfit is never complete without accessories! I'm obsessed with necklaces!

Where would you like to be 5 years from now?
I would like to have my own fashion line that reflects my own style to sell on Suddenly Darling! That is my next goal.

Can you tell us a beauty secret?
My beauty secret is to always make sure your makeup looks natural. Less is more!

If you could go to tea with one person, dead or alive, who would you go with and why?
I love tea!!! I would love to sit down with one of the Olsen twins (Mary Kate or Ashley). They have such amazing style and are extremely successful yet they keep their lives so private. I think it would be interesting to get to know them and how they get inspired with their outfits.

Do you have any advice for girls who are interested in starting up their own fashion website?
It's a lot of work. But when you're passionate about something, you should go for it because it all pays off in the long run!

  1. This is awesome! I discovered this site a month or so ago and I'm very impressed. I agree that modesty is unfairly given a negative connotation. In reality, in can take a lot more creativity to style a beautiful & modest outfit, then to just flaunt oneself. Thanks for the interview! xx

  2. Great feature! I love how girls who demonstrate that you can be fashionable without showing a lot of skin. I, too, wish I had a site like this in HS and college!!

How others perceive you is so important throughout life... Like Katelyn said, show that you respect yourself, and others will follow suit.

  5. I love how you introduce Katelyn Rose. She is my number one fashion idol. Most of my outfits I put together is from her own outfits. Thank you girls both for sharing. :)

  6. I definitely wish I knew of that site in high school too! I agree, modesty is so important to me. It always gives an outfit a ladylike, sort of vintage feel. I hate when other women have their boobs hanging out of their top. I think it's something to keep private for someone special, not the whole world! Thank you so much for this post.
