Dear American Apparel,
I have attached a cd with one song for you to listen to while reading this. 'Quit playing games with my heart - Backstreet boys' Dont cry, yet.
Where to begin? We have been down this road before. I tell you that I love you, your high waisted pants, colorful socks and pastel nail polish...you smile back at me and soak in the praise. You make me feel better after spending hundreds of dollars in your store. "Look how good it looks on you" "Its so pretty" I give you an A+ in that department. But AA....lets cut to the chase. I wont sugar coat it because I know you can handle it. Why oh why did you come out with a chiffon skirt that you knew I would fall helplessly in love with, go weak in the knees for, then put a price tag on it that makes me want to cringe? You know, you had me going for a bit. You did that whole "Come on Kate...it will look so good on you!" thing you're so good at...and I will admit, for a second I believed you. I guess you could say that I came to a lightbulb moment, a cross roads if you will. Do I stay committed to you just because we are comfortable together? Just because you have been there through the years? Or do I taste the water? Go find other fish in the sea? No, I am not breaking up with you (yet) but maybe you should sit down, because there is something I should tell you. I wish I could say its not you, its me...but im sorry, it is you. Your chiffon skirt is beautiful, yes, its true. Its everything I have ever wanted...but there is one thing. This whole 'seeing other people' thing has really opened my eyes. I found another chiffon skirt. Did you honestly think I wouldnt? It was three dollars (yeah, you should be wide eyed) perfect fabric, mint condition..and better than all the colors of your chiffon skirt line put together. So next time you feel like marking up your prices, when you know that I can find something better for under 5 dollars..you can remember this note. I love you forever and all that jazz, but quit playing games with my heart...call me when you're ready to talk. Oh, and for the record...you're not making me jealous with those sleazy girls in your ads...you make me repulsed.

    Ahhhhh you go, gurl, you TELL 'EM. Seriously though, AA and I may be just acquaintances who've talked and mingled and maybe even flirted together before (but that was only that ONE time, and it was at a party, and...). But I have to admit that not only is the high price off-putting, but the fact that they have had some questionable ethical practices in the past.

    Regardless, you rock this just-as-good-and-way-cheaper look. :)Also, I can't believe I haven't been to your site in awhile-- I LOVE the header! Did you paint it, or...?

    Thank you for putting everything I've ever felt towards AA down in one short letter. You should probably actually print that and send it in to them... because they are truthfully WAY over priced for the sort things they put out.

    I'm pleased as punch you found an even cuter skirt for probably .0005 of the price AA was selling theirs for. I can't imagine a maxi skirt like that being any prettier!

    Can i keep that letter in case I actually need to break up with someone!? I'll tweak it a bit I swear ;) I've never shopped at AA so I'm not sur ehow expensive they are. I AM sure that this $3 skirt looks absolutely amazing on you!!! I love pastels!

    Gah, that skirt is so gorgeous. I'm glad you didnt buy the A.A. one. As far as the disco pants go...those are worth it. Haha. And my boots aren't from Aldo they're actually from...DUNDUNDUN Marshalls for like 20 bucks. I'm generally a bargain shopper ;P

    Kate! First and foremost, I love you, you are hilarious! Second, that is an amazing skirt (you pull off the maxi look well... I'm still scared to try it, haha). AA should be jealous and should read this letter.     I seriously giggled at this post, which is nice because I've been having a glum day! I used to be allured by AA's super-cool-but-basic-basics but I shied away because of the prices. Granted, I have a few pieces (and nail polish in a hue similar to your lovely skirt!) but nothing about them is managing to keep me in.

    I laughed in reading your AA note. . .because I have actually written to them about how I don't think they should have ads out where kids can see them especially since they sell kids' clothing too but are all naked all throughout their site and ads.
