velveteen rabbit

Dearest ones, I hope that you all had an amazing weekend. I feel like my weekend was a rocky rollercoaster. Do you ever have those? I felt like nothing could go right. I wanted to stay in my pajamas all day and watch movies and listen to sad songs. Why do we do that to ourselves? Sometimes I find it so hard to be upset. I find it hard to be constantly asked "whats the matter" when you dont have a smile on your face for 5 minutes out of the day. Somedays I just want to look at people and scream "Im not okay right now" - but I get lost in this idea that I always have to be happy. That I always have to have it all put together...surely, one of you can relate, yes?

Last night I went for coffee with a sweet friend who I dont see often enough. I love good conversation. You know not the stereotypical how are you doing, but in the in-depth "I actually care how YOU are doing right now" type of conversation. I came home feeling encouraged, and spent a lot of my evening journalling. I love those nights.

Today has been busy, but I thought I would write on here. I really hope all of you are having a fantastic week :)

  1. Well, that first photo of you is darling!

There's an interesting article I once read about the over-diagnoses of depression in Western society -- mentioning exactly the things you said: if you're not happy, you must be sad, right? Depressed? Clinically depressed? Not so, this psychiatrist argued. Life is not always happy, but that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with us. We have days, months, even years sometimes when things just don't go our way, but that's okay. I'm glad you understand :) After all, we wouldn't call it "happy" if we felt that way all the time...

  2. The print on that skirt is wonderful wonderful!

I think we all need to experience sadness sometimes because it's humbling. It makes us more grateful for the happy times. All of first semester I was really sad and unmotivated and just generally apathetic toward everything. I stopped caring about school and just went through the daily motions of work and school and social outings but I was really just depressed. But this semester has been a complete turn around. I didn't realize how great it feels to just be content with life. It's wonderful! Okay, well there's my bit, and lovely week wishes to you as well! :D

  3. Julia - Thanks for sharing that :) I love what you said. So true. Glad you understand!

Cheyne - You're lovely..I know what you mean about humbling. Thats something I find so important. Things can become pretty repetative, I relate to what you're talking about, so happy you are feeling better now! Have a great week, too!

  4. I think it's really interesting what Julia shared-- I definitely can see that point. And dear Kate, I want to hug you and say that "yes, yes I can relate!" but I wouldn't want to come off as a crazy. :) I feel like this week is a detox for me, but I have to get on the ball right when school begins again. Just because someone's happy doesn't mean that person has to be perky all the time. We all have our off days, and we need them, right? That actually reminds me what my dad said to me once: we all need those hard times, because if we don't, we'll never grow up.

Ahhh enough rambling from me, I hope you feel better one way or the other, velveteen rabbit!

  5. Sometimes you have a lousy day, but just turn on the t.v. and watch something that makes you laugh, I'm sure that will cheer you up! Or watch something dumb on youtube! I love watching That '70s Show, that always helps me :) And writing about it is definitely very therapeutic, hope your day is better :)

Thanks! My room is getting there. I wish I could decorate it exactly the way I want it. It will get there eventually :) You're so lovely, thanks for your kind words!

  10. 1. Might I just point out how absolutely beautiful you are? K, thanks.
    2. If we were all happy every day of our lives, we could never appreciate those times. We might as well be without emotion, because it would just be the same thing day after day. Feel better, but don't stress over it. You'll feel better when you can.

  11. yeah, we don't have to be happy every moment of our lives. we don't always have to be in a good mood. we are all entitled to our pj days. i hope you are doing better though:) and might i just say, that i used to love the velveteen rabbit!

  13. I feel like this at least once a week. I will usually just take a deep breath and go for a walk or read at a park. both of these take little energy and help a bunch.

  14. I hate those type of days, I haven't gotten one in awhile though. But I know what you mean completely, when that happens I just feel going to sleep forever just so I don't think about anything anymore. Cheesy comedy movies and a carton of ice cream help a lot :) I love these pictures and your hair!

  18. Aww, I came to this maybe a bit late but I'm glad to hear you saying all the things that have been in my head for a while.
Sometimes you just need a real friend, with a real talk; someone who is cool with you not feeling happy or having all the answers.
Thanks for just being honest about that kind of thing, on a blog where people don't really know you. It makes me want to come back, actually, because you're not depressed or overly happy- just real. Ahhhhh....That's nice to see.
    :)
