I cannot believe its already November. I remember it being February and thinking this year was going to take forever to pass by but it has seriously gone so fast! November is one of my absolute favorite months. Its just past Halloween and you're still stuffing your face with candy, and its right before December and everyone gets so excited about Christmas. Sometimes I forget that I am living in Australia, and I want to put on a leather jacket and boots out of habit, and get ready to get my ski's all waxed for the new season, but no! I am here - on the other side of the world, where today it is humid and rainy, which means big and frizzy hair! I had fun taking these photos. I was inspired by this months issue of American Vogue with Carey Mulligan. I was reading it last night and saw her shoot with her bare feet and I was inspired and thought I would go barefoot. Okay okay, so I will use Vogue as a good excuse for now - but in all honesty - what shoes do you wear with this dress?! What color!? Help me!
This dress is one of my new loves. It was sent to me by the gorgeous Cin of Kind of Wonderful. This website is so so lovely..and I have been so impressed by the quality and customer service of this shop too! They sent me four things and I cant wait to show them all to you! When I first tried this dress on I got a bit self concious about the length. I remember always hearing that short girls should never wear longer length dresses/skirts but I am ready to put a stop to that silly statement right now! Short girls can indeed wear long skirts and dresses, and they can rock them too, so eat that - fashion rules! Alright, so you can see I am a bit passionate about making my point yes? I just really love this dress (and can you tell I am so obsessed with this color lately?) and want all of you short girls to embrace longer garments!
I have something to ask all of you - and be honest with me! Do you ever get in those ruts where you just dont want to post on your blog because you are unhappy with how your blog looks or how your pictures turn out? I have been so up and down lately with my feelings towards my blog layout and pictures..its just not meshing the way that I want it to, but I dont know how I am ever going to get it the way that I want it to - because my mind seems to always be changing with another idea of how I want it to look. Anyone feel me? Maybe something that I get discouraged with is that I dont get inspired by my surroundings. There isnt many places to take photo's near my house, and I love having an inspirational surrounding around me to work my post around. Have any of you ever felt like this (please dont tell me im the only one!)
Hope that you are having a great first week of November! x
Dress: C/O Kind of Wonderful
Belt: Thrifted
Rings:Diva,Thrifted
Cute dress!
ReplyDeleteI def understand what you are saying about your blog.
I wish I could make it a bit better, but it is so hard when I don't have any time at all.. =/. I am sure you can make it work though. You are fabulous!
xo
That dress is lovely. As for shoes I'd say go for either something neutral like black, or something REALLY bright. I'm digging longer hemlines too, so I'll join you on that front (I'm not short though). I have moments where I feel the same about my blog, so you're definitely not alone there!
ReplyDeleteLove the dress Kate! You look great! Can't help you on the creative side of your blog, as I am highly lacking in the creativity department, sorry! BUT, on another note,... you have your sisters hands! Odd I know, but just noticed in your pic! ~Bambi~
ReplyDeleteCute outfit and dress! :-)
ReplyDeletexx
I can't believe it's November either. This year's gone so fast! Oh well. Your dress is beautiful x
ReplyDeleteOh I love this dress. The colour is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the blog. I changed my blog layout pretty much every other day for like 3 weeks before I finally settled on the one I have now, and even then I still change little details every so often when I get bored of it.
that was the sweetest compliment/s I've ever received! Thankyou! it means so much!!!! Its funny because I found you through Tiekas blog, and then when I put on the outfit I was like 'I feel so tieka/Kate today!' haha
ReplyDeleteThat dress is so stunning, and the last photo of your feet is just so lovely (and I absolutely hate feet so thats a big deal haha)
I think every colour goes with that dress! Cream would look so lovely, or gold sandals or maybe even like a deep cerulean or actually just the general colour scheme of your blog!!
xxxxx
Love the dress
ReplyDeleteand your photography is amazing

Kate, I love that last photo so much! The dress is gorgeous, very ethereal. I definitely get in ruts, especially since I only see my photographer a few times a week and often it's when we're busy at university so we end up using the same boring backdrops. These photos turned out wonderful though! You're so stunning with big hair.
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely dress! Love that you're barefoot too - shoewise I'd fo for a nude or a bright colour like red to pop against the muted tones.

Louder Than Silence
I definitely feel the same way about my blog! I don't have the know how to really design it how I want it and I never have a good place to take pictures-I don't even have a tripod-it makes me frustrated that I never have good quality photos!
ReplyDeleteI adore that dress-and what you call humid hair is what I call gorgeous hair!
That dress is SO pretty.. from the camel color to the draping, I love it all!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I came to a realization a while ago. My blog doesn't have the photography or scenery as some of my idol blogs, such as The Clothes Horse and Strawberry Koi and Hello Mr Fox.. but they are unique and I have a defined style that I'm constantly working on, both in photography and clothing. Your pictures are YOU! And while it's always great to improve, don't be down on yourself because your blog is unlike anyone else's and that's why so many people & sponsors LOVE it!
Great photos! That is such a stunning dress. I thought you were holding it on the side, but then I realised it was the cut of the dress! Beautiful! I get in a rut with my blog too. I can't wait to get a new layout happening xxx

Brown flats...or boots! hehe I love the dress. Very cute.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I get in those ruts, too. In fact, I'm in one right now. I have a friend working on a new header for me so, hopefuly, if he doesn't want to kill me for having him change it up so much, I'll have a new header that I love soon. But your layout looks great! In fact, I even sent my friend the link to your page to tell him that your header was one that I really loved. Thought it might give him some inspiration. I'm not lying. I promise. Your blog looks amazing.

Totally understand the blog rut fully. Ha plus lots of other craziness going on that makes it extremely hard for me to pay attention to blogging. I think this dress would look awesome with these coraly-orange/red suede pumps from Urban Outfitters. I just got a pair the other day and I immediately though of them, they would add a kick to this outfit!
ReplyDeleteBrace yourself, I have a lot to say! ;)
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I love this dress with the barefeet. I love the slouchy, long fit of this dress and you absolutely rocked it! I'm only 5'3 and I often feel "weird" in longer dresses, but you are a constant inspiration! Since I'm all about breaking those silly fashion rules, you bet I'll break this one too! :)
As far as blogging ruts, I think everyone has these! I literally just changed my layout last night because I wasn't happy with it. I really struggle with interesting photo locations too. Mine are always taken in one of three backyards. Maybe we need to come up with some sort of challenge on seeking out 5 great new locations in our area for pictures!
I think your blog is amazing, really! You're pictures are always so beautiful and you are a true inspiration! But if you do want a new layout, there are a lot of other bloggers that do graphic design (definitely not my forte)!
Deep breath, I'm done! Have a great day Kate :)
I love rain. these are great.
ReplyDelete. . .I am looking forward to Christmas.
I for sure know how you feel about being uninspired! I'm always trying to find new surroundings for my photos, and have found that a nice afternoon out on the town looking for places to take photos is always inspiring.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I really LOVE your dress. The color is perfect!
It's a beautiful dress. Simple yet serene. I love that you are barefoot in November. Thanks for sharing the photos and come and visit me too soon.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Wauuuuu...I love your dress and your look..It is lovely..xoxx
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty much always unhappy with how my photos turn out, and I'm also constantly thinking about redesigning my blog, but I never really know what I want to do with it. Also, I don't like taking my own pictures, which I'm having to do more now because it gets dark so early and my man is working. Sigh. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about it all, but YOUR blog is always an inspiration and your photos are always ravishing. i adore this dress and am wearing that exact same color today!
ReplyDeletexoxo
this is very nice dress i love the it flows so sweet! the color is so simple and wonderful! and the belt go great with it too
ReplyDeleteA great pair of crazy multi colour ones! I would choose flats but that is up to you, my dear :)
ReplyDeletethat dress is a perfect blank canvas and girl, you can rock any shoe with it! i say go bold or stay neutral.
ReplyDeleteI definitely get in funks with my blog even though i've only been consistently blogging for about a month! I get frustrated with my layout, and pictures and sometimes have no desire or inspiration to look pretty and share it with the world. it's tough and i definitely think that most of us bloggers are perfectionists, thus we put a lot of pressure on ourselves. don't worry about it. the inspiration will come back! being in a funk is natural. I say turn on some funky grooves, dance, and let it go. :)
i wander, i wonder
wow! Great pictures!!! CUTE BLOG!!! Please check out mine, it's new and i need followers, will you follow me please?

I definitely know how you feel about the blogging rut! I get frustrated and discouraged with my layout and photos pretty often. I tend to compare myself with other bloggers, but I just have to remind myself that that's no way of going about life! Don't worry, inspiration will come to you :)Your photos and layout are wonderful, Kate! Every single one of your posts inspires me, and I know i'm not alone in saying that! keep doing what you're doing :)
ReplyDeleteyou're darling! i love the dress.
ReplyDeleteand i know exactly how you feel about your blog. i feel the same way often... i compare myself a lot too, which only makes the feeling worse!
we'll get out of the rut. <3
xx elanor
Thank you for the comment! You are so sweet! I love the barefoot photos! So cute!
ReplyDeleteYou have beautiful hair. It radiates
ReplyDeleteand your nail polish,
it's so charming
love always~
hope to hear from you ^_^

First of all, I feel you. It's so easy to compare yourself with others. But I like your blog because you are YOU. Not Calivintage or What I Wore or whatever.
ReplyDeleteAlso, short girls can wear long dresses! Fashion rules are ridiculous. You are beautiful!
You are not the only one, trust me! I am pretty new to blogging and I feel that the only positive way to look at it is to remember it is a fun hobby I do, not something I am trying to impress other people with or doing for other people, you know?
ReplyDeleteSome bloggers do it as a full-time job... which is awesome for them, but at the same time, just remember that you blog for your own reasons and it should not matter what other people want or think of your blog! I, for one, adore your blog and I know many others do as well! Keep it in perspective :)
And I am having a lovely November, thank you! (I don't know how to respond to comments on my own blog so I always have to go back to the other person's blog to do so!)
And I think black shoes would look really nice with the dress.
:)
i love that dress so much. i know what you mean about feeling like you should be wearing fall clothing in november. at least for me growing up in the northern hemisphere and now living in the southern hemisphere it's so very weird this time of year to be hearing about fall festivals, chilly days, scarves and apple cider back home and be in spring here. i wish we were all on the same schedule!
ReplyDeleteThis dress is so beautiful. The color is gorgeous. I would suggest wearing it with simple black wedges... or something fun, like mint colored heels!
ReplyDeleteKate, I just really want to tell you how much I do love your blog. You do a fabulous job. Your love for others shines through all your words and pictures! Your blog inspires me when I feel like my blog is poop (haha).
So, it was also encouraging to hear you be honest and say that you sometimes feel your blog is stale. I think everyone goes through that! I desperately need a friend with some graphic design know-how, and I am saving up for a nice camera.
I think your blog design is cohesive and that you shouldn't worry too much about it for the moment... Maybe wait until you have a burst of inspiration and plan it all out. Then make the move of changing it. Sometimes little things that bother us can just take up time we should be spending on other things!
Hope your Friday is wonderful!

ps. hosting a little giveaway from my vintage shop... check it out: Paloma Vintage Giveaway! Merci!
YES, I completely understand what you're saying Kate. I'm feeling so uninspired lately, and the fact that Ramon and I have been so busy that we practically don't have time to search fun places to take some pretty pictures like most bloggers do, it's letting me really unmotivated.
ReplyDeleteYour blog has an amazing layout, your style is creative and you always look so adorable in your pictures that I just wanna squeeze your cute cheeks and never let them go :P
And you look gorgeous in that dress, who really cares about the fashion rules, right?!
<3,Jo
oh the last pic of your little feet has to be my fave, so cute!
ReplyDeleteI love longer lengths. I think it's foolish to say more petite women can't go longer because EVERYONE can wear an evening gown. If you can wear a floor-length evening gown, you can find a daytime skirt/dress that works too!
ReplyDeleteAwh, Kate - you have no idea how much I know what you mean and how you're feeling! I haven't posted photos/an outfit I've been 100% happy with in a long time. I love blogging but always imagine my pictures and blog looking different!
ReplyDeleteYou honestly have nothing to worry about though. I wish my photos looked more like yours! And when you get back to Canada you will be more inspired I'm sure :)
This dress is gorgeous on you, lady.
X
You are not alone - I often feel that way about my blog. Mainly because I am not overly happy with how I look right now and so I never want to take outfit posts. It can be really hard to get out of that rut.
ReplyDeleteIf it's any consolation, I love your blog and your header. And what a lovely dress that one is! I think the longer length looks excellent.
x
this dress is gorgeous! btw your photos are always so lovely and same with your outfits so please don't be discouraged to post them!
ReplyDeletegorgeous xo

what a beautiful dress!
ReplyDeleteand your hair looks lovely too, i wish mine wasn't so straight and boring, haha.
I think you could wear some really fun, bright shoes with dress since it's such a neutral color. I love the way it falls, it's so elegant and easy.
ReplyDeletexoxo, Ashley
All the time.
ReplyDeleteI am forever measuring my shoots up against other bloggers and get myself bogged down when they don't seem to measure up ugh. Truth is we all have our own styles - not only with the clothing but also with our shoots. It 's hard to remember that sometimes. :)
For what it 's worth, I always enjoy your posts :)
That dress is a beauty!:)
ReplyDeletegasp!! i love your dress. the color is gorgeous and i love the way it drapes.
ReplyDeletebut yeah, i know what you mean, i do get annoyed with my blog layout and pictures and the way i look in them. but usually when i think an outfit is horrible or the pictures are horrible, that's when i get the most feedback. like my readers know that i'm feeling insecure and they come to encourage me :)
I adore that dress and your photos are always so lovely!!
