When I first saw this bag in February, I hardly knew what to do with myself. It was the first Alexander Wang piece where I truly thought true love is in the air. A little too dramatic for Spring and Summer, but the perfect staple for Fall and Winter. Good work, A Wang. 6 and a half months later, and I am still smitten.

One of my favorite things when I was younger was waiting all summer to get the list for back to school shopping and hit the shops with my Mum. Pens, crayons, binders, glue, erasers, highlighters..it was all too exciting, really. I guess I am a bit of a stationary nerd. But though school supply shopping was over the moon exciting, it did get trumped by a little something else. Back to school CLOTHING shopping. Is there anything better, really? I've been away from school for a good four years now, but have decided to finally go back to being a full time student and with that, comes back to school shopping. At the top of my wish list? These babies. Ive been an overly eager beaver and already bought some of these...but its back to school! We can treat ourselves, right?! ;) Whats on your back to school shopping list?!

I feel like this year my biggest investments have been in blazers and boots. What irony to buy blazers and boots in the middle of summer, but I just cant stay away. Pinks, blues, purples, reds, greys, nudes...they are all jewels in my book. With the days getting shorter and the sun shining a bit less, I am getting more and more excited for Fall to near because its my favorite season of all! At the beginning of the summer an idea came into my mind and I wasn't able to shake it. Inspired by the never ending solar system and beautiful planets, I wanted an asymmetrical skirt with a galaxy pattern on it. A bit of a impossible request? A little bit of heat, mixed with no sleep and a lot of slushies usually results in Kate Morrison absolutely losing her marbles. I thought I would get over the craziness in the middle of May, but no, we are now half way through August and I am more crazy than ever. Summer is just too much fun, friends. I find myself wanting to kart wheel all over the streets, eat a box of popsicles to myself and star gaze 7 days a week. As a general rule of thumb, dont take life too seriously..but when summer is involved, you follow this rule like no other. Have as much fun as humanly possible...few weeks left, make the most of it! My fondest memories of summer include those with a certain someone named Danielle Simkus. Though we are apart 355 days of the year we still make up for lost time when we are together by having the funnest time in the world. I was so happy to be able to spend a good two weeks with Dani this summer, eating ice cream & McDonalds french fries and talking the night away. I really need to get back into blog world. The weather in my city has currently been bipolar. I wake up wondering if I have to wear a rain coat, jeans, shorts, or a sweater. I am used to it being burning hot every minute of every hour of every single summer - but it is different this year. But do you want to know a secret? I dont really mind. Infact, I love it. I love the rain. I love the over cast. I love the nights where I can still wear a dress but throw a cardigan and feel comfortable. I am in the prime of my life these days. Also, the bag in this post may very well be my most prized posession and I finally thought 'its time to show it on Postcards From' so here it is, the Kate Morrison infamous Chanel bag. After eating boxes upon boxes of popsicles, smelling like coconut sun tanning lotion, having flip flop tan lines and 24/7 lemonade, I decided to take a break from all the summer lovin' and come back to blog land! Yes, I am still alive! I haven't done a blog post in so long! Forgive me friends. Its summer! How could I?! I am having too much fun being outside. I do appreciate all of your little messages to me though asking me how I am doing. I am doing well. Working, sewing, biking and enjoying the summer days with family & friends. I still make time for my blog reading though every morning with my cup of coffee..and love what you ladies are doing this summer! You have inspired me heaps. My new love at the moment? Anything chiffon. Well, that isn't exactly a new love, its been a love of mine for a long time, but chiffon pants? Could it get any better than that?

I feel like I have been counting down the Months, days, hours, minutes and seconds to when I would be able to wear a dress with no cardigan or tights. The day has finally arrived and I am so glad! The other day I was talking to a friend about how when I lived in Australia, I never got too excited about the heat. It was the same thing, everyday. Hot, humid, sweaty...after a while (a week) you kind of get over it. But after a long Winter, and gorgeous Spring, I came to appreciate the Summers here in Canada so much more than I ever have before. Its been almost four years since I have been home to be able to actually see the seasons change. Its lovely! Hope you are having nice weather wherever you are. Happy Summer!! :)

I proudly wear a "C" made from a rink and a hockey stick on my chest, and yes, I think it's Classic!

I left the house this morning in warm weather apparel in the form of shorts, sandals, and tshirts..but with unfortunate weather suprises, changed quickly into jeans and boots to save myself from being drenched (been there, done that) I am crossing my fingers and my toes that with the final day of May it will be the final day of boots. I am ready to retire them all to the back of my closet, you hear that Mother Nature? But I am not sick of the rain yet, for April showers brought May flowers...in the form of pants! Floral pants have been a dream of mine for about two years but a pair has never caught my eye long enough to leave a lasting impression. I digg these ones, so they will be around for a while. fast goodbye, speedlight return

There is this old cheesy saying, "If you love something set it free, if it comes back its yours, if not..it was never meant to be" When I quit my blog, in my mind and in my heart, that was it. Done-zo. I never imagined I would miss it, let alone still read over 150 blogs a week. It was, and is still, a very big part of my life. To some of you, I left without much explanation, and I don't feel that I need to go into personal detail about my decision to leave my blog, but hear me out pretty ones..

After emails upon emails and letters from you lovely readers, asking me to 'come back' or 'do one last post' it began to strike a cord. I would be lying if I said that after a week of being away I wasn't already missing everything about blogging. Believe me, I was. But I knew that when I quit my blog it was because I needed to be in a place where I was OKAY with walking away from it all and giving it up. I needed to know that there was more in my life than just taking pictures and posting them on the internet. I needed new hobbies. I needed to explore new things. I needed to find life in other places. I did. I started reading again, skateboarding again, eating ice cream (whaaat?!) but in spite of new things I missed Postcards From. I cant tell you how many times I wrote fellow blog friends emails just asking them how they were. I miss you all. I really have been wondering how you all are.

I spent this past weekend in Vancouver with my Dad. Relaxing, having fun, eating delicious food, and laughing my face off. He brought up my blog probably about 25 times or more on our trip. Every person he talked to "my daughter has a blog.." "Have you ever seen Katy's blog?!" and through my nagging, kicking, and slapping him on the back with cheeks as red as cherries, I could see his tactic. He didn't want me to give up. "You cant just quit your blog Katy.." became his favourite saying of the weekend it seemed. "But Dad I..." "No Katy, you are GOOD at it. Its what you love doing" he was right! I had no more excuses. My blog is something that I love doing. I love writing. I love inspiring. I love taking photos in the blistering cold or sweltering heat. My blog isn't my life...and it never will be my whole entire life, but it will be a part of my life. So call me crazy, say "I knew you couldn't stay away", I don't mind because I am crazy (Do you know Kate Morrison at all?!) but at the end of the day I'd rather be crazy with Postcards than crazy without it.

One year ago I started this journey in front of a red brick wall outside my house in Australia with a floral dress, and a pair of tights that had way too many holes. I never thought that I would stick with it and meet so many amazing friends, but I did, and I have enjoyed every minute of it. I cannot tell you enough how much I have enjoyed running a personal blog, and letting you have a little sneak peak into my daily life. Your comments, emails, tweets, snail mail, presents and clothes swaps have made me over the moon.

In saying this, I am sure you know what is coming. Its been a difficult and personal decision, but a good one at that. I have decided to say 'sayonara' to blog land indefinitely. Don't fret friends, you can bet your bottom dollar that if and when I do return I will be the same Kate Maggie...and maybe even find another red brick wall. This feels like a hard break up, and that's mainly because it is. This blog has become one of the main parts of my daily life and of course I am going to miss it, and all of you. I love all of you readers, and if you ever need anything, you can always write me an email. You know how to find me. Is it silly I have tears? :)

Every so often I just fall off the face of the blogosphere and have you all wondering when I am going to come back to do a post. A girl with some mystery is always good, right? ;) In reality, there is no mystery, life has just been crazy busy and insane as of late and its hard to get a moment in. Today is my day off though, yippee! I went a bit wild & slept in as late as I could (9:30...wow, go crazy) and relaxed with as much freshly squeezed lemonade and ice cream as one girl could (and I don't even like ice cream!)

I thought today would be the perfect day to show you a new love of mine - these metallic sandals. I have been crushing over metallic sandals for a little while, but finding a great pair has been a bit of a challenge. Luckily they found me, I didn't even have to go looking, and here we are happily in love. What have you all been up to!? Fill a sister in! xx

What a weekend! Kate and Will get married (are you sure you married the right Kate, Willy?) Osama Bin Laden is done-zo and prep for the Canadian elections. What a world we live in. What did you do this weekend? I was outside 95% of the time soaking in the gorgeous sunshine and eating non stop fruit platters. I spent most of it in this beautiful dress sent to me from my lovely friend Tiek. I remember this dress came out when I was still in Australia and I was super in love with it, but of course it sold out and I wasn't willing to pay the hundred dollar shipping over seas. Luckily, bloggers love to swap clothes and Tieka let me style this dress up! So in love. Thank you Mrs Dierolf!

You have seen my brother Kent pop up from time to time on my blog (3 times to be exact!) but I thought it would be fun to feature him this weekend. A love for clothing is definitely something that runs in the Morrison family. I love that my siblings and I can always get excited together about new clothes, or finding the new perfect piece. My brother's signature look is skinny jeans with band t-shirts (jeans that he steals from my closet!) and thought I would add a little boy love to this blog that is always centered around girls clothing..and, lets face it, Kent loves reading all your comments about him! ;)

There are a few moments in my life that are more embarrassing than the rest. Like today, when walking to lunch with my Dad and having strangers stare at my legs. It look me a minute to clue in to what they were looking at. "Maybe they like my pants!" Oh no, friends. That wasn't what they were looking at. These pants make it look like I am not wearing anything else but sheer lace, with bare leg underneath. It made my cheeks cherry red for about 5.6 seconds then I got over it. Have you guys ever had something like that? Like a wrinkly shirt where you have to explain to people you aren't the grungiest girl on the face of the planet, that's just how the shirt was made! Or despite how much your dress blows in the wind, you are wearing biker shorts underneath! Or ripped jeans when you have to explain to elderly people 'I have enough money to buy new ones, I just like how these ones look...and I just bought them yesterday!' I have a lot of experience in this department. I suppose the best thing you can do is laugh it off.

On a completely different topic, are any of you planning to watch the Royal Wedding? I am quite excited about it to be honest. Quite the fan of Kate Middleton (she has a good name) and cannot wait to see her dress. Have a wonderful Thursday friends! x

I love a good pleated trouser, especially when they are the color pink. I love that it is that time of the year when you can wear such bright colors and not look like a complete weirdo. Spring is my favorite! I have to share with you a Kate secret. Yesterday I did something I thought I would never do. I took all of my tights (gasp!) and put them into a box, and put them into the back of my closet. Maybe I had a moment of losing my mind, I dont really know, but its time to explore the world without tights on my legs 98% of the time/year. Heres to skirts, shorts, dresses sans tights, and cropped pants. Its a whole new beginning for Kate Morrison. What have you guys been up to this week? the dream blazer

There are very few times that a clothing item engraves itself into my mind where I cant stop thinking about it for hours on end. I went to a vintage shop a couple days ago and saw this blazer on a rack, fell head over heels in love, then saw the price tag. So expensive! I came to grips with reality that I might just have to let it go and find another owner. Came home, thought about it all night, dreamt about it, woke up the next day and realized "I have to have that blazer!" I called the shop owner and asked if the blazer was still there. 'Yes of course!' she said, and I was in my car faster than you can say blazer. You know its love when you leave the house in sweat pants and wet hair (You will NEVER see me with wet hair!) After texting close friends to get their opinion, and dipping into my college fund (just kidding mom..sort of) here it is, the most wonderful blazer I have ever seen. My Dad refers to it as the 'Jackie Kennedy' blazer..could there be a better compliment? Probably not. This baby is with me for life.

There is a list in my life of a few things that I will never get sick of. Pickles, sour candy, lipstick, Mcdonalds cheeseburgers, and polka dots. You can imagine my excitement when Tieka asked me to do a clothing swap with her! I have always had a bit of an adoration for Tieka so wearing one of her beloved dresses is very exciting! I am so smitten with this one. I recognized it as soon as I took it out of the packaging as the one that she wore on her amazing photoshoot with Brett this past Winter! I love how she styled it with the belt and maroon tights! Its so fun seeing different people style the same item, no? I feel like I am so predictable these days. Leather jacket, these booties, vintage necklace..but at the same time, I am so unpredictable. Nathan says I definately keep him 'on his toes' when it comes to my fashion. He never knows what I am going to whip up each day. I guess thats a good thing, right?! :)

Do you remember this post? I shared with you all my love for baggy sweaters and the fact that I don't care if I look an extra 20 pounds if it means I will be comfortable and warm! Sundays are the perfect day for such a sweater, and you can bet your bottom dollar I sported mine all day long. Besides, its best to tone down the rest of the outfit when you have one piece that out-shines the others. When I first saw this leopard satchel on Dylana's blog I literally freaked out. Leopard? Leather? Satchel? You have got to be kidding me. All my favorite things packed into one bag. I dreamt about it for weeks, put it in and out of the shopping cart on the online Melie Bianco store, until I finally took the plunge to order it and it didnt work for my Canadian address. Talk about heart break. The plot thickens...Dylana had a giveaway on her blog a few days later. Guess what the giveaway item was? THE Leopard Satchel. I already said you've got to be kidding me, right? I couldn't believe my eyes. I entered the giveaway while crossing my toes, fingers, and wishing with everything that I would win this bag. A week later I get a tweet from Dylana that stopped me right in my tracks! 'You won the bag!' Nooo way. What are the chances? And here it is..happily with me in Canada, in love, together, perfection. This bag is a dream! Couldnt wait to show it to you all and here it is!

Green is a top notch color. The color of 'go', Yoshi, Ninja Turtles, Kermit,Green Lantern, Starbucks...okay I got distracted! Its one of my favorite colors but I don't wear it enough! Every time I do wear it though I fall in love with it tenfold. There is a superstition that sewing with green thread on the eve of a fashion show brings bad luck to the design house. Interesting stuff, hey? That's my little tid-bit of information for you this Saturday!

Are you having a good weekend? The weekend always comes and then I cross my fingers that clocks will stop ticking...but my wish has not yet come true. Today was filled with excitement and jumping for joy (literally) because when I went to take a walk and snap these photos, I started out with my leather jacket on and quickly took it off after 2 minutes! This is so exciting! And what better way to spring into the season even more so than I already have by wearing my new favorite flats from Blowfish Shoes! I won these in a giveaway from the Indie Conference that was held by Tieka & Elizabeth. I was so so so excited! I love these flats and they are seriously so comfortable. They give the perfect 'Spring' touch (and go oh-so-nicely with orange lipstick, of course! ;))

Friends, I have a question! I have been thinking about Postcards From and of course I want your advice because my readers are my favorite part! :) I love you guys and I love reading your comments...so help a sister out! My love for peach has never really expanded much further than my television screen while playing Nintendo, but I have always wanted to attempt to nail this color in an outfit. I wanted it to be perfect. You know, the 'ah ha' moment when you think to yourself 'why did I never think of this before?!" This skirt just arrived in the mail for me from the lovely Toshiiiko and I was finally able to make the girl I always save from the vicious Bowser come to life before my eyes. The perfect staple piece - a peachy, lacy, maxi skirt. Absolute heaven. And are you getting sick of this leather jacket yet? If so, too bad. Its not going anywhere. I live in this puppy day in and day out. Its attached to me at all times...:)

I cant believe its already Wednesday. I love when weeks go by fast. I have spent this week drinking too much vitamin water (seriously, what is with that stuff?!) and laughing too hard with my parents. They are two gems in this world. Have an amazing rest of your week, sweet ones. xo

Despite loving fashion, writing, blogging, and photography...there is one thing I like just as much. A good cup of tea. Loose leaf, organic, sitting in a beautiful mug with all different flavors magically coming together to dance inside my mouth - that's a good cup of tea. Last night Nate and I went to my new favorite cafe in our city and I thought I would share a few photo's of its loveliness with you all. We of course spent our time playing Mad Gab, reading about Einstein and blushing at me being on the cover of a magazine! Is there any better way to get over the Winter blues other than to just dive head first into all Spring has for us? Bright colors, pastels, floral..you catch my drift. Orange is everywhere lately and I began to wonder why I don't own a single orange piece. Then it all came rushing back to me. I ~~hate~~ hated orange. Who would invent such a color? But like most things in my life, I get over it and then soon fall in love..and it didn't take long for me to swallow my pride and give orange a chance. As per usual..I was smitten and here we are. Me and orange, together at last. How have I never had orange lipstick before this weekend? I have no idea....but lets not dwell too much on the past. Things change, people grow (now I am getting so sentimental) but all in all I recommend you all give orange a whirl. Just try it. You don't have to love it, you don't even have to like it, just promise me you will try it?

Yes, what you are seeing is real. Kate is wearing jeans. Blue jeans. It must be Sunday. Whats up with me owning like zero pairs of jeans? I looked in my closet for some today and they are all gone! MIA, vanished, OBLIVIATE! Not that I am complaining since I wear jeans maybe once every 3 (12) months. You could say that I am picky. Im only into high waisted skinny jeans at the moment and I cant seem to find any good ones anywhere (American Apparel dont even think about trying to win me back!) but these dreamy jeans showed up infront of my eyes this weekend. Im a faithful fan of American Eagle jeans. Ive been wearing them since my early teen years and they always fit like a glove and are so so soft. I havent shopped there in literally four years, but they didnt dissapoint. Finally! A high waisted pair of blue jeans. Maybe I will make my Mother proud and wear these babies more often. four eyes

I will share a little Katy secret. In grade 2 I had a friend named Alysha ,who on top of having the coolest two peice matching cotton sweat pant suits, velcro shoes and school binders filled to the brim with neon stickers....she also wore glasses. Coke bottled glasses, oh yeah, she had it bad. I admired from afar..wondering how on earth I could convince my parents to let me get some. It all started one day when I so wisely (foolishly) asked Alysha if I could wear her glasses for an ENTIRE day. After feeling like the coolest kid on the block, and having headaches that made me want to cry all day long, my eyes started to change. Slowly over the months I noticed little changes and subtle hints that I needed glasses. I was over the glasses phase by then and on to something better like furbys, tamagotchis, or better yet - boys. Grade 3 I noticed I was squinting my eyes to see the black board, and then it happened..the eye exam. I wanted to so badly pass the eye exam so I wouldnt have to wear goofy glasses to school everyday, but on the other hand I so badly wanted to fail it so I could have four eyes. I made up in my mind and ever growing imagination that once you have glasses on you can see things that people without glasses could not. The world became new, and that day I purchased my very first pair of eye glasses. Through the years my eyes have gotten worse. I wear contacts daily with a -4 prescription. Talk about bad ass. Or just blindness. Here I am at 22 years old, still wearing glasses....but I thought "if i have to wear them, they better be cool!" so two years ago I chose these Raybans. I remember taking my mom and Dad to the glasses store right before I left for Australia and showing them these glasses. My Dad said to me "You will look even more like Ugly Betty now!" "Umm no Dad..mine arent as bad as hers" "Yeah I know Katy..they are worse" but whatever Dad, I can totally see out the back of my head. Xray vision, night vision, you name it. These glasses are magical.

I will admit I own more tights than one girl ever should, but something in my heart jumps and dances around when I get a new pair to add to the ever growing collection. Floral tights, heart tights, pastel colored tights and even nude tights..but the ones that have stolen my heart as of late? These babies. There is something magical about white tights that I have always loved. And polka dot white tights? Dont even get me started. A new favorite!

Enough about my love affair with tights. Lets talk business. Do you see any ch-ch-ch-chaaaaanges around here? Of course you do! New layout, new header, new look, new Kate..just kidding, I am still the same! ;) About three months ago I was sitting in my room thinking about my blog (as us fashion bloggers do) and thought of ideas for a future new header. I knew I wanted it to be pretty colors, water color, a drawing of me on a couch, lovely pillows....but how on earth was I going to find someone good enough to make my idea come to life? That's when she stepped in. Out of the blue, unplanned, I stumbled upon a gorgeous girl named Valerie's blog and spent a good hour looking at each of her drawings. Examining every single stroke. (Okay, im teasing Valerie..but seriously..I was being picky) I came across a set that she made called 'Postcards' Was it fate? Oh yes friends, it was. I emailed her and basically begged her to bring my far off idea into life on paper. To my suprise she said yes! Ofcourse! And here we have it..the most amazing illustration. Thank you SO much Valerie. Oh, but a new header isnt good without a new blog layout, right? So one girl came to mind. My favorite, the apple of my eye, miss Tieka. Could anyone be more amazing than this girl? I have a lot of respect for anyone who can have patience with me in trying to design a blog. I am seriously brain dead in this area! Where to begin? We have been down this road before. I tell you that I love you, your high waisted pants, colorful socks and pastel nail polish...you smile back at me and soak in the praise. You make me feel better after spending hundreds of dollars in your store. "Look how good it looks on you" "Its so pretty" I give you an A+ in that department. But AA....lets cut to the chase. I wont sugar coat it because I know you can handle it. Why oh why did you come out with a chiffon skirt that you knew I would fall helplessly in love with, go weak in the knees for, then put a price tag on it that makes me want to cringe? You know, you had me going for a bit. You did that whole "Come on Kate...it will look so good on you!" thing you're so good at...and I will admit, for a second I believed you. I guess you could say that I came to a lightbulb moment, a cross roads if you will. Do I stay committed to you just because we are comfortable together? Just because you have been there through the years? Or do I taste the water? Go find other fish in the sea? No, I am not breaking up with you (yet) but maybe you should sit down, because there is something I should tell you. I wish I could say its not you, its me...but im sorry, it is you. Your chiffon skirt is beautiful, yes, its true. Its everything I have ever wanted...but there is one thing. This whole 'seeing other people' thing has really opened my eyes. I found another chiffon skirt. Did you honestly think I wouldnt? It was three dollars (yeah, you should be wide eyed) perfect fabric, mint condition..and better than all the colors of your chiffon skirt line put together. So next time you feel like marking up your prices, when you know that I can find something better for under 5 dollars..you can remember this note. I love you forever and all that jazz, but quit playing games with my heart...call me when you're ready to talk. Oh, and for the record...you're not making me jealous with those sleazy girls in your ads...you make me repulsed.

The last time I wore a jean jacket was....oh wait, I have NEVER worn a jean jacket. I think I had one in Grade 4 but got pretty sick of it after a week. It reminded me too much of baseball, Rosie O'Donnell circa 96, and Ponyboy from The Outsiders. Skip ahead 13 years and I guess you could say I am smitten over the idea of a jean jacket. I havent taken the step of getting my very own, oh no friends, not yet......but I did steal this one from my Mothers closet (where all good things are kept) and have grown quite a fondness with it. Riddle me this...where does one find the perfect jean jacket? You dont want one that is too stiff because then its uncomfortable and you cant even move your arms (cue Mr Roboto) but you also dont want one that is too worn in....because you want to be the one to wear it in. To give it life, to make it dirty with stains and splotches, to form it perfectly to your body. Am I right or am I very very wrong? These are the things that keep me awake at night.

There is a few moments in life that trump all the others, and one of those is times spent with girl friends. I am so blessed by all the amazing women in my life, and love spending time with each and every one of them. My gorgeous friend Danielle came to visit for Spring Break. Her and I spent a lot of my teenage years packing garbage bags full of clothes into my car and doing funny photo shoots around town, eating too much candy and laughing non stop. Of course when she came home we had to get together to relive the moments of our youth. As years past and life changes, girls grow up and instead of our crazy notorious picture sessions, we decided to go a bit more classy and serious (but not too serious!) for these ones. Whats your favorite thing to do with your gal pals?

The weather is gorgeous outside today (unlike yesterday!) and I have decided to go jogging (yes you read that right, jogging) and feed the birds. What better way to spend a Tuesday afternoon right? Have a good one, love bugs! x

magic of mohair

I never used to like mohair fabric. In fact, I despised it. I have a vivid picture in my mind of one of my teachers from Elementary school wearing a mohair sweater to class and I wanted to rip it off of her and throw it into a shredder, blender, or toilet. Okay, I am being a drama queen. I didn't hate it that much...but I didn't like it by any means. Then a epiphany happened (as they do) and I started to grow a fondness of mohair. The Angora Goat who produces the hair that is turned into the silky textile called 'mohair' and I became friends. Seeing it come alive in runway shows and street style photographs, I thought I would give it a chance. Yes its itchy, hot, animal-like and not always practical...but I had fun wearing it!

Did you have a good weekend? I drank a lot of coffee, ate too much sushi, and caught up with girlfriends. Oh, and ate half a box of ice cream by myself while watching Glee season one. It just doesn't get any classier than that my friends. xo

After weeks of digging deep into my wardrobe and pulling out my spring clothes, having fresh flowers in my room, and putting on coral lipstick just to go to the grocery store....I am not going to hide it anymore, and I will just come out and say it - Spring is here my friends! I thought of the ways I could kick off Spring on my blog with a floral dress and white tights, but I figured why not pull a Kate classic and wear all black...ah, but a surprise on my feet will surely get them excited for this month. And how appropriate are they for St Pattys? Yes...I did good. Do these shoes not scream Spring to you? The perfect color, the perfect shape, the perfect block heel. Not only do they put me in a good mood, my family loves them as well. So here it is lovelies. Out with the black and in with the color. When I think of a fashion staple that I will never ever get sick of, I think of denim shorts. I wear them all year round, all different colors, and am absolutely smitten! These shorts have been around the world with me on all my travels. Dirt, ketchup stains, bleach splotches - they are a faithful friend! When looking through my closet this morning I thought 'I could pull a Kate classic and just wear a dress, but its time for some jean shorts!' Can you tell that I am slowly gearing into Spring? Im doing it with certain pieces at a time not to overwhelm myself and mother nature, but enough to give her the hint to hurry up a little bit!

There came a time a few months ago when I broke my clothing's hearts and unpacked them from my Australian suitcase and immediately folded them and put them into the very very back of my wardrobe. "Sayonara amigos!" and that was the end of it. Inspired by a beautiful blogging friend, Alana, I decided to rid them of their closet darkness and bring them back into the light. Whoever said that rompers dont work in winter is a bit off their rocker, and needs to come back down to earth..quick! In saying that...I gave myself the biggest challenge since my favorite romper screams summer and even I cant deny that..but when suited with darker colors, boots and scarves, I think you are good to go. (take that, fashion rule!)

lovely lavender

When it comes to Spring pastels, nothing beats the beautiful color of lavender. Whether in the form of a bath gel, candle, or color of clothing you can never go wrong with lavender. I think we can all agree that Mila Kunis looked drop dead gorgeous at the Oscars, true? She inspired me to go on a hunt for the perfect purple piece for my wardrobe. Im not a huge fan of the deep Barney style purple, but I am head over heels for the soft hues. I think its the perfect pop of color, and so feminine too! I have been feeling so excited every time I look into my closet lately because I have so much color all over the place. Greens, blues, yellows, oranges, its time for spring! (Hurry up already!)

With a new love for lavender, comes a new photographer (but only for today!) Meet Kent Morrison. My favorite brother, and apple of my eye. Love this guy to no end. We had a play date today and he was kind enough to take my photos and even let me take a few of him. What a babe! I have a secret that he is probably going to kill me for, but I will tell you anyway because when he said it I laughed so hard and thought "Oh my gosh..I need to tell Tieka and my blog readers about this!" caramel crunch

All my outfits lately have reminded me or have been inspired by food. To anyone who knows me, this is no suprise. I LOVE food. There are a few things that I am not too fond of though. Sausages, pancakes, donuts, muffins,pesto anything, peanut butter, cheddar cheese, and at the top of the list : Caramel. I know, what is wrong with me? There are a few exceptions though...caramilk bars, rolo icecream, and caramel macchiatos from Starbucks. Today when I was leaving the house I felt like a walking caramel sundae, and I didnt mind even in the slightest. I love creams and browns and neutrals all together and even though I am not the biggest fan of caramel - I am now the biggest fan of this outfit. I just received this cardigan in the mail this week and I have been guilty of sleeping in it and not taking it off even for a second. It is the COZIEST thing ever. I know, I say that about all my sweaters..but it almost seems like they just get cozier and cozier. Can you do yourself a favor and go buy this please? Thanks!

growing attachments

Ive been known to get attached to things and never give them up for months on end. It all started when my Dad and I went on a camping trip and the only gas station near by only sold one thing remotely close to candy : Starbursts. Needless to say, for the week that we were there I bought about 4 or 5 a day and became obsessed with them. Case two, won ton soup. I went through this obsession where I would "need" it every single day, and craved it even when I woke up (yikes!) Fast forward three years to my recent obsessions : sushi, fructis shampoo, sleepy time tea, jane austen, and after yesterday, this dress. The wonderful company Plum sent me this dress and I couldnt have fallen more in love. For one, I love the colors, the shape, the fit, and the fact that it was made in my home country - and even better, Vancouver! Nothing better than local designers..such a fan! Thankyou Plum!

Oh, and can I just say that I am jealous of my Moms entire wardrobe lately? She just bought this leather jacket and I love love love it. Mum, can I have it? ;) But for real..I love having a Mom who likes nice clothes just as much as I do (and is the same size as me, thank you genetics)

I used to work at a smoothie shop and one of my guilty pleasures was making a daily creamsicle smoothie. Whoever came up with the idea of vanilla and orange together is an absolute genius. There is nothing more refreshing! When scanning my closet this morning this sweater and skirt danced before me and I was left with no choice than to relive my days of a smoothie connoisseur and form a creamsicle outfit right before my very eyes. Why did I never think of this before? I absolutely love these colors together - and with spring on the horizon and my fashion goals (wear more colors!) fully in check, this outfit is all I could of asked for and more. The lovely Adrianna from Le Mode Accessories sent me this lovely necklace and I thought it went perfectly with this outfit. I am such a sucker for anything with a gold chain and floral print. I have always had a bit of an adoration for animal print. My only problem was that I thought it suited so many other people, but never thought that I could wear it in a practical way without looking like a character out of Austin Powers. I love leopard print with the tan and brown colors - it is so pretty! I took the plunge last year and finally got myself this cardigan. True love at first sight with this bad boy..and the love affair has kept going through the years. Speaking of love affairs, lets toss the leopard out the window for a new york minute and talk about these desert boots I just got. You see, my love for desert boots started when I saw the most amazing pair on the Madewell website, but I never got around to ordering any for myself. Enter Forever 21...who always saves the day, with prices that dont make you cry and beg for mercy. I am in love!

I would consider myself overly paranoid. I am scared of anything and everything. When I was younger (okay, I still do this) I remember being in my room at night and if I heard any noise coming from outside, I would turn off all my lights and look out the window. My theory is, I can see the bad guy but he cant see me...and I will have time to run and hide. Yeah I know, I am nuts. Today Nathan and I were going for a drive and he saw this house on the side of highway and had the genius or not so genius idea to get out and take photos IN the house. Um...let me think about this for a second. No thanks. Abandoned house in the middle of nowhere and you want me to go inside? Not a freaking chance. I got up enough courage to get out of the car and take these pictures just outside of the house, but it was not easy my friends. You think when you look at these photos "Aw, she looks so nice and composed" but in reality after every photo I was looking behind me below me ahead of me to my sides and everywhere else to make sure we weren't about to be the next two missing adults from Canada that's story gets turned into a horror movie in 2012.

I wanted to say THANK YOU so much for all your sweet and lovely comments on my video blog on Friday. I was seriously beaming from ear to ear all weekend from all the nice words you all said to me - thank you thank you thank you! Too sweet. Maybe I will make more in the future? I mean, I am a professional vlogaahhhh!!

violets are blue

Shades of blue are usually out of my radar when it comes to fashion but I decided to bite the bullet and get over it today. I have been seeing so many blue and navy colored items on blogs lately that I just had to try something navy on. Guess what? I liked it. So of course I decided to go the extra mile and pair it with some blue socks. Guess what? I liked it even more. I don't know what my beef is with the color blue. I think it all started when Eiffel 65 decided to grace us all with their presence and obnoxious song (which I listened to on repeat all through my grade 7 year) but since then it has been a number one enemy. Its time to mend this friendship. I am just going to come out and say it : I like blue. All shades of blue. I am dipping into the unknown friends and bringing more blue to my closet.

We had yet another gorgeous day today. I get so excited when I wake up and instead of my dark room it has been so bright and warm lately. I went on a walk with my Dad this afternoon and got so excited when I realized 15 minutes in to the walk that I was getting too warm and needed to take my jacket off!! Spring is in the air, and with that comes miss Kate wearing more and more colors. I thought after my Wednesday Addams look yesterday I would lighten the mood and wear some cheerful hues. Nathan and I spent the day at an old park swinging on swings and building miniature snow-men. It is seriously so beautiful outside today. I took off my sweater just to see if I could bare the cold with naked arms, and thats when magic happened my friends. I wasnt cold. Not even a teensy weensy bit. I didnt get chills or goosebumps or purple blotches. I was warm. Okay okay, I was in direct allignment with the sun, froze up when I moved into the shade, and just got out of a car that had the heat turned up so high I felt like I was on a Hawaiian cruise but thats not the point...the point is that, spring is near love bugs and I couldnt be anymore excited about it!

leather fever

There is two things that I can never get enough of in my closet. Velvet, and leather. You know when you are shopping and you see something in your peripheral and you are 'trying' to give your friend the 100% attention that they deserve, but all of a sudden you are MIA and they are left walking alone and talking to themselves while you dash to the 'MUST SEE' item. I will be honest and tell you that I have this maneuver down to a T. I swear I could be in a shopping complex and my best friend could tell me shes engaged, pregnant, or that her life long dog just died and I would say "Okay. Great. I'll be right back" before it even registers. Anyone know what I am talking about? That is the story behind this dress. I saw it out of the corner of my eye, and left my freind abandoned while I tip-toed (ran) back to it. Love at first sight. Isnt that how I am with all of my clothes though? Its true. But who wouldnt love a leather panelled dress?

I hope you are all having a wonderful week so far. I wish I could say mine has been exciting and life changing, but really I took the lazy route yesterday and stayed in my pajamas all day watching Oprah and Dr Phil (perfect thing to do when you're bloated and tired, true?!) grandpa sweater

My Grandad always wore the most amazing sweaters. I remember always thinking when we would go visit him "Does he ever wear the same one?!" it seemed like each day there was a new color, new texture, new shape. He loved his sweaters..and it must run in the family, because I have grown quite a fondness for sweaters as well. I don't mind looking like my upper body has gained 50 pounds when a cozy sweater is involved. The term 'frumpy' and 'bulky' get tossed out the window - and even though over sized sweaters do make me look those words, I could care less. Wouldn't you agree? Don't you have those items in your closet that even though you know they might not be the most flattering..you will never give them up because comfort outweighs style with that particular piece of clothing? I saw this sweater when I was at Super Store with my Dad, and though I have never bought anything from 'Joe Fresh' I thought I would give it a try. It was mega long on me, so I cut off the bottom and sewed it up and made it into a crop sweater. Ta da! Perfection. Love love love it.

I had a lovely lunch today with my friend (hi Sarah!) and was so glad to finally catch up with her. You know those moments when you haven't seen someone in years but when you see them again you almost feel like time stood still and you pick up right where you left off? We had so much fun reminiscing about our teenage rebellion. Im thankful for good friends in my life! Hope you are having a wonderful Thursday. Hugs. xo

50mm of love

A year and a half ago my parents got me a 50 mm lens for my 'coming home from australia' present. I remember being so excited because I always wanted a 50 mm...but I didnt know how to use it at all. Needless to say, its been sitting in my bedroom for that entire year and a half & today I finally got sick of seeing it sit there so I decided to take it out with me and Nathan and see if he knew how to use it. Oh, how I love my boyfriend. I knew there was a reason I liked him so much! ;) He knew exactly how to use the lens and how to make these photos look amazing! No more photoshop for me. Couldnt be more blessed. I seriously recommend all of you to look into getting a digital SLR. It was the best investment I ever made and will never go back!

If there is one thing I like almost as much as I like Nathan..its this cardigan. I know, you are probably getting sick of seeing it on my blog all of the time, but I cant stop wearing it. And for good reason. Its the comfiest thing ever! I have been stalking the Urban Outfitter website since boxing day to see if this puppy was going to go on sale and just a couple weeks ago it did, in every color! Eeeep. Guess what cardigan you will be seeing a lot more on Postcards From in the future? ;) And these tights were a lovely gift from my favorite gals over at We Love Colors. I cant rave enough about WLC. They make the best tights - and that says alot coming from a girl who wears tights every single day of her life. I LOVE their tights..and thought white would be a nice addition to my rainbow of colors. Thankyou Cara!! xo

cozy thursday

This outfit is totally not something I would normally wear, but lately I have been so in love with comfy knits that I dont really care aslong as they arent skin tight! I fell in love with this sweater dress when I first saw it, then I saw the price tag and knew it was meant to be. $6.00. Can you believe that? 6 dollars? How could I pass it up? I could never pass up a good cowl neck & I havent been feeling too hot today either so this has been the perfect outfit to lounge around the house in. I feel so cozy! And allow me to introduce a member that goes unnoticed on this blog but is still one of my dearest pieces in my closet. The purple leather J. This jacket is a bit old. I got it about 4 years ago at a random mall I went to with my parents on summer vacation. I saw it in the store window and thought "Leather jackets are perfection, but a purple leather jacket? Thats just taking it all to the next level" Needless to say this bad boy has stuck with me through good times and bad. It was getting a bit jealous of its other friends in my closet for always getting recognition on my blog so I thought todays the day! Hope you are all having a wonderful week! I certainly am. Ive always had a love/hate relationship with the color white. It always reminds me of weddings, michael jackson, or hospitals - so you can see why I dont usually lean towards it. 2011 is a year of fresh starts though, and that includes exploring new colors in my wardrobe. I told myself this would be a year of white, red, orange, and even...gasp...pink. Lets see if I can last past March with these goals.

Have you guys been having a great week so far? I had a wonderful Valentine's Day with my lovely dream boat. We went for heart shaped pizzas (my favorite!) endless rootbeer, gumballs, and a wonderful (but incredibly sad) movie to end it all off. Have any of you seen the movie "Never Let Me Go?" If not, I suggest you do! But beware..this is definately the type of movie you are going to want to wash all your mascara off before and have a big box of kleenex on hand. Nathan and I (even though he probably would never admit to it) were both in tears! Its a gorgeous film though with amazing actors. Loved it! Hope you are all having a great week! xoxo

My neighborhood kind of reminds me of a scene from Desperate Housewives. Everyone seems to have their quirky secrets that they dont want the rest of the street to know about. My family can be known to leave at strange hours of the day and night with hoodies on and maybe even sunglasses (even in the dead of winter) just so we can drive off without having to hear about Henrys swim meet or Donnas baking club. Next to my brother I am the youngest person to live on this road, therefore im mega trouble. I often get weird looks when I leave the house with grocery bags full of clothes in one hand , and a tripod in the other hand. Or when I blast Lady Gaga's obnoxious yet amazing tunes in the car and wake everyone up...and especiallllly when I come home (3 times a week) with Mcdonalds, or Wendys (its okay, im getting over this phase) But today....I decided to put the cherry on top of the cake, and take my blog photos on my street. Yes, I got stares, long stares, 4 minute stares....but this didnt hold me back. This aint no Mr Rogers neighborhood, but I try to add a bit of Morrison fun to remind them not to take life so seriously. I only had enough guts to get these five photos before I became overwhelmed with fear that someone was going to come and ask me what in the world I am doing (its a free country!) I would say I am a bit of a romantic. Yes, I smile for days at the sight of a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Im a sucker for love poems, love songs and love stories. I could write love letters for hours and still not get sick of it. So you can probably put two and two together and come to the conclusion that I love Valentines Day. Do you remember getting so excited to go to the store and pick out your favorite package of valentines day cards and come home and fill them out for all your friends? How amazing was it to see your valentines day mail box in your classroom full to the brim with lovely notes from your classmates with pictures of sailor moon, garfield, my little pony, the little mermaid and alf on the front of them. I remember being so full of hope when I would receive valentines from my (extensive list of) crushes. "To Katy - Happy Valentines Day! Love Johnny" *sigh* Ive come a long way since I was 8 years old but Valentines Day is still dear to my heart. When I was younger every Valentines Day my Dad would give me a heart shaped box of cinnamon hearts (they are my favorite!) right before I left for school. It was his special way of saying "I love you, Happy Valentines Day!" and even though this day gets commercialized with boxes of chocolate, obnoxiously huge teddy bears, and the famous red&pink combo, its still a day to be thankful for those you love in your life and a day to tell them so. a new beginning

For every ending, there is a new beginning. I started this weekend out on a low note. One of my most prized posessions, my absolute favorite peice of technology, and trusty friend vanished before my eyes. I would be lying if I said I wasnt prepared. I knew she was getting old. Her buttons wouldnt click, her flash wouldnt work, and she was getting tired of me pushing her so hard when she knew she had no more to give. I sat on the end of my bed and thought about our times together. Oh, the memories. Like that time I accidently dropped her from the top of a bunk bed and crossed my fingers and said a quick prayer in the middle of the night that she wouldnt be broken. Or the time when I wanted a blurry photograph so I rolled her down my street on a skateboard while I ran beside them. Or my favorite - how she went with me to every country I visited, every big event, every laughing moment and every crying moment and never let me down. I will miss you dear camera, it was a good five years. But just like my highschool yearbook quote states, when one chapter ends another begins. You could say I did a bit of rebound dating and found a new love pretty quickly (less than 24 hours! yikes!) but its till 'Death do us part' right? Heres to five years of new memories, with my new love!

How poetic did I sound just then? Maybe I take these things a bit too seriously? ;) On happier notes my friends, im here to introduce you to the newest member of my shoe collection. I call her 'Blink 18shoe" to take me back to my punk days of studs and galore. They were sent to me by the lovely Monica at Spotted Moth and I instantly fell in love. You know how I am with studs, so it didnt take me long to hop into these bad boys. I thought I would glam them up with a pretty dress and my favorite jumper. Not too shabby! After almost a whole week of laying in my bed and eating nothing but lemon popsicles and icecubes, I have finally recovered! I was greeted by the unfriendly enemy - 'The Stomach Flu' (and believe people when they tell you, he's not nice!) It was the most sick I have been in my 22 years of life, and I am crossing my fingers that I never get it again. You can imagine my excitement when I felt good enough to go outside. The outside world? It became a foreign concept to me. I truly felt like I was Edward Scissor Hands locked up in the tower and the only thing I was wishing for was an Avon lady to knock on my bedroom door to get me out of there. Nathans not exactly the avon lady I was rooting for, but hes better - so he took me out today. The weather has been so gorgeous lately. I couldnt help but be giddy the moment Nate and I went outside today. I love the snow, so the two of us had fun playing in it and twirling (okay, maybe Nate didnt twirl) around.

I have been meaning to show you these chocolate brown leather shorts since December...but ofcourse, that wasnt going to happen. I got them for Christmas, and as you can probably guess - I was smitten. I have a love for leather shorts that seems to be hard to put into words so I wont even try right now, but I adore them with a deep deep adoration. (Okay, that was a bit over the top...but to be truthful im practicing my writing skills for Valentines Day and truly taking any chance I get) Hope you have a great rest of your weekend and a wonderful week ahead. My Fondest Memories With Nath...

1. Sneaking out on new years eve 08 at 11:52 to go down to the park. We did kart wheels and somersaults all over the field, and completely missed 12:00...but quickly said happy new year at 12:25
2. First kiss when I felt like my cheeks were going to burn off, and you almost ran away from me from being so shy.
3. The night you asked me to slow dance with you in the middle of the street as you sang Coldplay.
4. Mcdonalds trips at 11 PM - when you only order a frozen coke, and I order a whole meal..but you never judged me once.
5. Everytime I got sick you would sneak into my room when I was sleeping and pick up all my tissues, buy me fresh orange juice, and make me soup.
6. First day meeting you when you looked like Bleeker from Juno and I gave you my digits right on the spot.
7. Staying up until 2 AM just so I could skype you when I was in Canada and you were in Australia, even if it was only for five minutes.
8. Writing love notes on napkins, and giving them to eachother months later.
9. December 9th 2010 - you have never annoyed me so much as you did that day, but I remembered why I love you after you wiped away my tears on the airplane, told me you loved me about every 2 minutes, and bought me a hungry jack burger.
10. October 7th, picnic in the park even though you had a fever you went with me and ate all your chicken just to be polite.
11. The first 'i love you', and how I woke up my not-very-impressed room mate at 2 AM from over excitement.
12. Watching the Notebook together the last night that we were together before being apart for 9 months - even though you dont even like that movie but you knew I loved it.
13. Sitting on top of the hill in Newcastle on our first hang out when you gave me a rock and told me to throw it into the water and make a wish. I wished for you, by the way.

thankyou for always making me believe my hair is better than yours even though yours will always be 10 x better than mine.
thankyou for never losing your temper and raising your voice. oh, and never cursing either.
thankyou for teaching me the correct way to stack a dishwasher, bake chocolate chip cookies, and use an e-brake.
thankyou for getting your tattoo & even though I am still not completely sold on it, you stuck to your guns and did something you are passionate about. thanks for being like that with everything.

Hello, this is Chelsea from Tea Talk! I'm filling in today for Kate while she gets over a nasty cold.

Today I thought I would share with you a place very near, and dear to my heart, my hometown of Phoenix, Arizona. I am super passionate about the area, and feel very lucky to have grown up in such a great place. There are so many amazing coffee shops, restaurants, and boutiques in the area and I would love to share a few of them with you.

1. Lola Coffee
This cozy little coffee shop is the perfect place to sip an iced americano, and enjoy a rosemary shortbread cookie. The inside has this amazing vibe to it, and almost makes you feel like you're in New York City. It's one of my favorite places to go while on break from class.

2. That's A Wrap
This veggie friendly restaurant is the perfect place to grab a yummy lunch. They have the best tofu wraps, and really delicious iced tea.

3. Mercantile
This local shop houses a hair salon, vintage clothing shop, and also handmade letterpress cards and jewelry by local Phoenix artists. This is a fairly new shop, but it is packed with tons of vintage gems, and is the perfect place to pick up a gift for a sweet friend.

4. Frances Vintage
This boutique carries some of the cutest clothes and accessories in town. They carry Free People, Orla Kiely, and an array of jewelry from local designers. They also have a cute home goods section, and the owner is one of the sweetest, most encouraging ladies I've ever met.

5. Giant Coffee
This chic coffee shop is a recent favorite of mine. They serve the best iced honey vanilla latte's in town, and make some extra tasty pastries (which are half-priced after 3 p.m.). They have a really great space with lots of natural light, and they are always playing some kind of pretty music.

If you're ever in the Phoenix area I highly encourage you to check out these wonderful places. If you don't get the chance to sometime soon though, I encourage you to go out in your own community and explore all the cute coffee shops, restaurants, and boutiques that are in your area.

Happy Wednesday! I hope you are all having a wonderful week so far. I have been so lazy today...this is no understatement - but we all deserve a lazy day right? ;) Nathan made me breakfast this morning and came to bring it to me and I only got as far as the orange juice and fell right back asleep (while sitting up) and the orange juice went all over my bed, all over the fruit salad, and thankfully woke me up! Im definately in a sleepy mood today..but ofcourse I got ready for the day and got out the door for some fresh air (thank goodness!) and thought 'what a perfect time to show them my new shorts!'

I got these beauty shorts sent to me from the lovelies at Threadsence and fell in love as soon as I saw them in the package. Suede and leather? Could there be anything better? It truly is the best of both worlds...aaaand thats not all! I won this bag (can you spot the bikini bottom print on it?!) from 'HerCatwalk' and was very excited about it - thankyou HerCatwalk! Love you girls.

I saw these images this morning for the 2011 J Crew Spring Collection and couldnt help but fall madly in love with all the soft colors, sweatpants with heels (ive been meaning to try this!) and layers layers layers. I told myself that this Spring I have to experiment with new colors in my wardrobe. I tend to stick to black, whites, browns on top then add a dash of color with my tights of choice - but its time to bust out in some soft pink trouser pants, and orange tops. What are you excited about for Spring?

Australia Day

There is one place other than Canada that I would never hesitate to call 'Home'. Three years ago I embarked on a journey that has shaped, molded, and transformed my life forever. I remember sitting in the airport after saying my first tearful goodbye to my parents. I had never been farther than Florida without them, and even then, it was only for two weeks. Saying goodbye for 6 months felt like an eternity, but I did it, and I had no idea while I was travelling 12464 km in the sky that when I reached the other side, I would immediately fall in love. I got off a plane, hopped into a bus and travelled down the highway for three hours until I reached my new home for the next 6 months. I remember putting my ipod on, looking out the window at the amazing hills, sun, sand, palm trees, boys and girls everywhere holding popsicles and wearing flip flops. I knew I wasnt in Kansas anymore. Australia had always been a place I wanted to visit (and never come back). In Highschool my best friend Danielle and I made a plan in my bedroom one time about going to University in Australia, and buying a house, we even looked at real estate for Sydney! (We were 16..and dreamers) But as I am with most things, if I want it..I will go for it, and in this case, im so happy I did.

As you know I have a dreamy Australian living under my roof and I thought it would only be appropiate to celebrate Australia day - even with snow all over the ground. I went and picked up a cake, some meat pies for Nathan, and made a couple cups of milo and for 10 minutes felt like I was back in the land down under.

To the land of mateship, loyalty, freedom, kangaroos, good coffee, worlds best mcdonalds (maybe im biased), footy, oi oi oi's, she'll be right mentalities, beaches beaches beaches, dream boats and bombshells,the wonderful mulligans, sharks, snakes, spiders & everything else terrifying...I raise my cup to you. Thanks for stealing my heart, I never want it back...(you're worth keeping it) and for letting me meet your cutest male. Happy Australia day! I am, you are, we are Australian.

sew la tea do

One of the first places I go to in thrift stores lately is the sewing section. I could spend hours digging through old fabric, unfolding them from their neatly made squares, putting them on the floor and putting garments over them to see if they are the right size. I get a lot of weird looks when I do this, mainly because I am in my own world - but the thrift store ladies are nothing short of gems, helping me pick out the right thread and lace details for each piece. I decided that this weekend was going to be a Kate weekend..and with much needed time to myself, I made it just that. I have closed my door (& was even tempted to put up a 'no boys allowed sign') stacked up on tea and crackers and have sew sew sewed my life away. I bought all of the fabric for these three dresses shown above for a whopping $1.75. Yes, thats right folks, one dollar..and 75 cents. Through digging and unfolding and washing and ironing (even though some of these creases and wrinkles seem like they will never come out) and hours spent in my 'hidden room' - you remember the one right? ;) - I have turned these three neatly folded, elastic band secured pieces of fabric into three wonderful dresses. If that wasnt the best $1.75 I have ever spent, I dont know what is.

Ive been elusive for the past week - hiding out from the blogging world and working on some different things, but its good to be back and doing a post! This is going to be a quick one but I wanted to update you on a few things!

1. Etsy Shop - I have finally opened up the etsy shop, but I have only listed a few things so far. (this is much harder work than I had anticipated) dont worry your pretty little heads though, because more is coming - very soon!! Check out the shop here

2. Hair Cut - Thanks for all your advice on Twitter about what I should do to my hair. I trusted my brothers instincts and my own and went with the zooey d messy bangs look. More pics soon!

3. Green Tea Frappes - Is there anything else better in this world? I got some Matcha Green Tea powder this week and have been making frappes non stop. My family thinks its bonkers and they all get semi-sick when they see me blending up a substance that is similiar to slime. What do they know? Its the best drink ever.

1 TSP Matcha Powder
1 cup (or more..whatever you diggs) ice
Sugar (this sweetens the powder) again..as much as you would like
6 oz milk
1 Teaspoon (or table spoon, or two, or three, or four (okay, just kidding)) of vanilla icecream!
& VOILA....the drink of a lifetime

6 days ago someone who knows me better than I know myself suggested that I do something that I never had enough guts to do before. I took him up on his offer and havent been able to turn back since. You all know my love for vintage. Being in thrift stores is almost therapeutic for me - so when I thought about what I wanted to do in 2011...I wrote nothing more in my journal except "Go big..and dont look back" And thats exactly what I am going to do.

But Kate...what exactly is this suprise? Okay okay...I made you wait for it. I have decided to open up an online vintage shop! Its always been in the back of my mind as something I wanted to do but I never took the plunge and actually decided that I was going to do it. I woke up Monday morning with no fear anymore and decided I was just going to do it, and if I fail? Well whatever then - atleast I gave it a shot. So my week so far has been filling bags and bags with vintage clothes that I have handpicked from local thrift shops (is it sad the women that work at these shops already know who I am?) washing garments, hemming them, repairing them, and getting them ready to be sold to lovelies like you! Im going to start out on Etsy and see where this takes me. Stay tuned....Postcards From Vintage Boutique is just around the corner! x

Friends, I need to be honest. Ive been in a bit of a funk lately about this blog. I love doing blog posts and sharing my life and I have so much fun blogging..I truly do. I always told myself 'If you ever get to the point where you are not having fun anymore, stop!" because its seriously not worth it. But this past week (maybe because im in a personal rut at the moment aswell) I just havent really felt like giving 110% to this blog. Have you ever felt like this? Im so thankful for those of you who read my blog and leave me such encouraging and nice comments, and send me emails and questions. That seriously means the world to me. To know that I have inspired atleast one person is enough for me to want to keep this blog going..but I guess just this week I have wanted nothing more than to go to blogger.com and click 'delete blog' lets hope this passes and I get my senses back.

Before I get anymore 'woe is me' I want to tell you quickly about this dress. I dont wear much blue, but when I saw this dress hanging so lonely and by itself at a local thrift store for only $2.00 I knew I could change my mind about blue. I love the detail of the flowers, and the belt loops - and ofcourse my favorite part, the peter pan collar. I have been dying for something with a peter pan collar, and the fact that I found an oldschool dress with one was amazing.

black attack

Growing up, my mom never let me wear a lot of black clothing. I think she was afraid that if I wore black I would turn into a depressed Wednesday Addams and never come out of my bedroom. Now, in my adult life, I have so much fun wearing black...especially on days where I wear ALL black. I find it so classy - and fear not mom, I am still very happy even when wearing all black! Today Nathan and I drove for hours (literally 3 hours) all through the back roads of the city. I was showing him some of my favorite places. One of them is on this hill called Rose Hill. I find it so beautiful up there. Danielle and I actually attempted taking photographs there the other day but my car got suck in the ditch and a man had to tow us out with a rope. Talk about adventerous! Luckily, I learnt my lesson so Nathan and I didnt get into any danger today but we did have fun snapping photos in all the snow. These pictures turned out so bright and white and look so funny with me all in black in the middle of them!

As you all know, I am in love with velvet. Its my favorite. My closet doesnt need anymore velvet pieces but lovely Nathan knowing me so well got me these velvet shorts for Christmas. I have been excited to wear them on the blog. I saw them in Urban Outfitters about a month ago when Nathan and I just got back to Canada and spotted them from afar but didnt go any closer because I knew I would just buy them on impulse...but thankfully I have a gem of a dream boat who ordered them for me all by himself and suprised me on Christmas. Good work Nate!

Floral Leg Friday

This week has gone by so fast. I dont know what happened, since I hardly did anything, but I cant believe its Friday already! I really wanted to go see Black Swan tonight at the theatre, and then realized its not even in my city yet. Whats up with Canada being neglected with these amazing movies?! Have any of you seen it? Please tell me what you thought about it! I have been excited to show you these new tights that my friend Danielle got me for Christmas. They are the perfect blend of colors and flowers - definately makes me and my legs happy! And these shoes? I got them in the mail from Spring and couldnt have been more excited. Dani called them 'elf shoes' and I dont think she could be more accurate. I do feel like a little elf in them - but they are the perfect 'Kate' shoes. Thanks Spring for making my shoe-dreams come true!

What are you all up to this weekend? I have been doing a few sewing projects and have some things to share with you - tomorrow will be sewing saturday since I have to get some collars done! Wish me luck. I feel quite accomplished in this new sewing adventure, since I have only had to ask my mom for help once (yay!) and the pieces are suprisingly turning out. I like you sewing machine, I'll think I'll keep you around for a while.

Finally, an outfit post! I know, im terrible, but I have been a busy bee (and I know you forgive me!) but we are going to kick start these outfit posts in 2011 with one of my new favorites. I found this treasure of a dress at a local thrift store hidden behind a womens neon green two peice suit - marked with the lovely price of $4. I wore it for Christmas day and felt so old school.I cant believe the luck I have been having with thrifting lately...I think my town is just an absolute diamond mine when it comes to thrift stores because noone else shops at them! Yesterday Danielle and I went into the same thrift store and found a retro 50's bathing suit (cant wait to show you that one!), and the best collectible ever to grace my presence - a 1955 mickey mouse record player. You know the giddy feeling you get when you see something in a thrift store from afar? And then you start walking quickly towards it and dying to see it up close and personal? Thats how I was with this record player. It was love at first sight, and to my luck, it was half off day at the thrift store, and then the lady gave me an extra $5.00 off on top of the 50%..they must of really been wanting to get rid of this thing! Owell...one mans garbage, is another mans treasure.

best friends forever

There is some people in my life that mean more to me than I even know how to say sometimes, and one of the main people would be my best friend, Danielle. Her and I met in the early years of our teenage life, quickly became friends and even more quickly became inseperable. She came back home for a week and its the first time I have seen her in a year and a half. Needless to say, I was very excited and have been having so much fun with her. (but whats new, right?)

Outfit posts will be coming soon, I promise. I have been so busy lately but I will take time soon, pinky swear. Hope you're all lovely. x

I was sitting in my room going through the year and thinking about everything that happened to me, and I can honestly say 2010 was nothing short of incredible.

2010 was a year of growth, challenges, learning, moving in, and moving out.
Packing up and unpacking, failures and triumphs, letting go, and holding on.
Living on a ship, meeting new people, saying goodbye to others.
Starting new, expanding, trying, crying my eyes out - then laughing my head off.

This year will be a year of strength, rebuilding, new friendships, more smiles, less worrying, giving my all in everything I do, and wearing lots of red lipstick.

Bring it on, 2011.

the hidden room

There is a room in my house that I like to pretend noone else knows about. Its actually my favorite part of my bedroom. My Dad calls it the "hiding room" - I call it "ticket to Narnia" or "Platform 9 and 3/4" What room is this you may ask? Its the room inside of my closet. You can imagine my excitement of moving into this house a few years ago. A walk in closet - with a room behind it? Nonsense! But its true..and its a beauty. When I was away in Australia, my family turned it into a storage area, but you can bet your bottom dollar that I changed that quite quickly when I returned. I knew it needed something a little extra special.

Today I went out and purchased my first sewing machine. Im still trying to think of what her name will be, but it was love at first sight. I took her home and made a new beautiful space for her. Not bad for a first house, hey? Yes..she was very excited too. There you have it, a sneak peak into my secret room - but shhh, dont tell anyone. Hope you are all doing amazingly well! Hugs! x

Anyone who knows my family knows that we are 'strangely' polite (you wonder what we are hiding...yes, we are vampires), a bit introverted, and very disfunctional. I would say that we are a cross between the Adam's family, Cullens, and Simpsons...but no matter how messed up we are being with them is my favorite thing ever. My siblings and I cant take a single photo without laughing our heads off, but we gave it a good shot.

snow leopard

Nathan and I took a little scenic drive today to find some snow. You cant bring an Australian home with you to Canada and not show them some snow, right? So we set forth on our mission - and succeeded! We found the loveliest walking trail with a foot of snow on each side. Nathan was in heaven, I was freezing! Snow truly is so beautiful though. I forgot how much I missed it until I was actually standing in it. It just makes everything so much brighter. We had fun taking these photo's - and I thought it would be the perfect time to finally debut my leopard jacket! I got this jacket from Tieka about two months ago, and it was just sitting in my closet in Australia getting weird looks from all of my friends, but I knew there would come a time when this wonderful peice would get off the hanger and today was the day! I paired it with a new (and favorite!) dress of mine. I got this for 2 dollars at Value Village. I seriously missed Value Village so much. I always find someone I absolutely love everytime I go in there, and I spent extra long this time because it had been so long and came out with so many treasures, this velvet dress was one of them! My velvet collection is growing at a fast rate but I couldnt be more thrilled. Velvet is so classy especially in winter!

Ive had this deep love for talk shows ever since I got home. I used to be pretty bad with them. Anytime I had a free chance I would turn on the TV and watch Oprah or Ellen or the good ole Dr Phil - but I seriously havent been able to go a day without watching all three! I know, im terrible, but I guess im soaking it all back in. Do you guys like talk shows? Am I the only nut job? Speaking of Oprah..shes on soon, so im out of here! Have a great rest of your day!! x

dreaming of knit

There was one thing that I was really excited about when coming back to Canada..im sure you can all guess - the clothing! Its been years since I have worn a big knit sweater, toque, scarf and gloves. I am loving being back in the cold weather and having a reason to dress up in everything knit and warm! The night that I got home I was suffering from some severe jet lag and decided it would be a good idea to completely rearrange my closet and bedroom! Needless to say, 3 hours later and 4 garbage bags full of old clothes, I was set and needing to get rid of alot of stuff - fast! Luckily my dad is a gem and took everything to the local thrift store with me - but now there is spaces missing and holes needed to be filled. You know what this means? Winter shopping! Im looking forward to hitting up some thrift stores (which I have decided are so much better than normal stores) and getting as many sweaters as I can. Out with the flip flops and swim suits, its time for tights (as if I need anymore tights!) and boots.

Last night Nathan, my Dad and I took it upon ourselves to get busy and put up the Christmas tree. It looks so gorgeous, and the smell is just fantastic! I always find it fun looking through old christmas ornaments and linking them back to certain stories or situations. Do you do the same? Last night I went into my basement to look for certain lights and saw some decorations that I remember putting up every year - I like to think that the ornaments come alive and say 'pick me!' when I open up the box they are in. Am I sounding crazy? Most likely..but hey, I like to get into the holiday spirit! Who can blame me? Hope you're well, love bugs! x

home sweet home

A year and a half ago I packed up my bags and left for another Australian adventure, but after months of missing rootbeer, mountains, the morrison bunch and poutine, im back in the land of snow and love! And I brought a special someone with me this time..Nathan! We are both loving it here, and Nathan especially. He has only seen snow a few times so everything is still a bit of a novelty to him. Even though there isnt much snow on the ground (or any at all for that matter!) we are still having fun playing out in the cold and getting rosy cheeks. I cant tell you how happy I am to be home with my family. It was such a long trip over here. We had a stop over in Beijing which literally felt like a month. I dont think I have ever been so bored (or cold!) in my life. Everything was worth it after I got to give my mum and dad a big long hug at the airport. How are all of you doing?! I have been missing doing blog posts..but I know that you all understand that I have just had the busiest two weeks. Things are starting to settle down now though so I will hopefully be posting more regularly! I hope that you are all having a wonderful December so far. Hugs from Canada!! x

A year or so ago, I wrote a list to myself of fashion 'must have' peices that I needed to put into my closet as soon as I could. This list included things such as the perfect cape (still looking for you!), as much velvet as possible, and leather shorts! When I was in Melbourne a week ago we went to an amazing street market that sold everything from old books to antique jewelery to incredible vintage clothing. I saw these leather shorts out of the corner of my eye (as we do!) when Nate and I were walking by a stall, and I had to go back to try them on. I pulled them up over my jean shorts, while everyone probably thought 'who is this weirdo?' but there is no shame when finding the perfect peice. They fit like a glove and I couldnt of been more happy. These shorts are my new favorite! It cannot stop at just one pair of leather shorts though, oh no, there will be more to add to the collection - im hoping brown will be next! What is on your fashion 'must have' list?

So I never really got to tell any of you about Melbourne - forgive me! I will be honest and say that I didnt take one photograph while in Melbourne. I know....I know! What the heck? I can say though without a doubt that Melbourne is a beautiful city and I would move there in a New York minute. I love the architecture, old cathedrals on every street, cafes and cute restaurants and shopping shopping shopping! Needless to say I was smitten, and despite some of my trip being absolute chaos I had a great time...and I found the cutest vintage peices. I have missed thrift stores so much. I used to have all second hand clothes, then stopped going for a year or so, but now I am back and loving it. They are seriously my favorite - and I love how everything is one of a kind! Perfection in my eyes.

This is my last full week of work..because guess what? I leave. I move. I jump ship...in 9 DAYS! Nine Days! My friends, this is such an exciting (but incredibly sad!) thing for me. I cannot wait to get home and take photographs in the snow and wear tights without getting crazy looks! I thought that this last week I would do all of my blog posts against the infamous brick wall. We need to end this era where it first began! Have a great week buttercups. x

After a week of hiding from Blogger Land - I am back in action and kick starting it with one of my very favorite friends, Levi Booker. He is unlike most of my friends, because he only goes up to my kneecaps, and we arent able to talk to eachother (yet!) but I love this little guy so much. Adriel, a very dear friend of mine and the Mum of Levi, was lovely enough to let me take a few photographs with Levi before they left for Christmas holidays. I dont know when I will see this cutie again, so I thought it would be a good idea to get some snaps while he is still young. And who says style blogs cant have a bit of baby fashion every now and then? Not only does Levi make me weak in the knees with his cuteness, but he also beats me with fashion any day of the week! A 9 month old with skinny jeans and high top Nikes? Eeeep!!

Even though right now you dont really know who I am - and everytime I come to see you, you're probably thinking "Mum, why did you let this crazy lady in the house?! She never stops staring at me and smiling at me!" Well Levi...its true, I cant get enough of you! I love when we hang out and you giggle if I scatch your belly, and you always put your hand over my mouth. I like it when you make your scrunch face and I try to do one as good as yours but never can get it quite right. I love when we go on car rides with your Mum and you make funny noises because you are so excited to be going on an adventure! And most of all...im glad we are friends. You are very special to me, little one. <3

Suprise! The brick wall is back in action, for only for this one post..so soak it up as much as you can! Remember when I used to do every single post infront of this brick wall? I actually really love this wall and probably will never grow sick of it, but lately I have wanted to expand my horizons and go see something a bit different than tiny squares of cement. How is your week going so far? I felt like Monday came way too soon..is that just me? I want to rewind to Friday and just make it go a little bit longer..but no dice, I will just have to push through! Last night Nathan suprised me with the cutest date ever. After we were done dinner, we finished the 2nd to last episode of my new favorite show Jr Masterchef (so good!) and then he told me to put some warmer clothes on because we were going on a date. He packed hot water and milk to make chai lattes, brie cheese (my favorite!) and crackers..and we went to this abandoned field and layed out a tarp and blanket. We both got eaten by mosquitos though so we had to think of a better alternative.....the beach! I love cute boyfriends with cute ideas.
